ARC connects artists abroad with Chattanooga to develop their professional practice while educating and diversifying the arts culture, providing dedicated time and space in the Scenic City for artists to work, research & develop ideas.

We offer comfortable living and studio space, convenient access to Chattanooga's down-town & bustling outdoors, as well as our community of skilled & resourceful artists and craftspeople. We are happy to provide assistance with documentation, research, co-ordinating group critiques & studio visits, and making recommendations for dozens of local eateries, bars, museums, galleries, and other awesome stuff to do in Chattanooga. During their time here, we hope residents will:

  • experiment & make meaningful steps in their practice that they may not otherwise make

  • engage in critical conversation with Chattanoogans and local community

  • allow new ideas and inspiration from Chattanooga to influence the work

  • challenge, educate, and push the boundaries of the current art climate of Chattanooga

ARC offers three types of Residency programs:

Featured Residency

Our Featured Residency supports a single artist or artist duo selected from a public, open call reviewed by a jury of local artists, leaders, and facilitators in the community. Artists provide a workshop, lecture, and exhibition, as well as donating an artwork to ARC. Travel, materials & supplies, special tools, and other living expenses are also the responsibility of the artist.

ARC provides lodging, studio, exhibition, and documentation at no cost to the artist. There is a $25 application fee. More Information →

Our Short Term Artist Residency (S.T.A.R) is a self-structured support program for up to three weeks. ARC provides lodging and select opportunities depending on available local resources and the applicant's interest.

There is no fee to apply, however residency fees apply once accepted. Artists are responsible for travel, food, materials & supplies, special tools, and most meals.

Local Residency
(in development)

One of our main goals has always been to provide opportunities for the public and local artists to engage with and learn from the arts. We are developing a support program that will work with a local artist to boost their professional practice as an artist by defining goals and paths to accomplish them, overhauling their artist materials and producing an exhibition of new work, including a lecture and workshop.

This program is designed to prepare a local artist for entering the larger art world beyond Chattanooga in an effort to strengthen our community of artists and the quality of art within that community.

Dallas based artist Ryder Richards, ARC's 2016 Fall Featured Artist, discusses his experience during the program and his time with Chattanooga and its art community. Find out more about his residency here.
